
Christopher Jones (1570-5 March 1622) was the captain of the Mayflower during its 1620 voyage to the New World.
Biography[]
Christopher Jones was born in Harwich, Essex, England in 1570, and Jones became a prominent Harwich citizen and burgess during the 1600s. In 1609, he became master and part owner of the Mayflower, and he moved to London in 1611. In 1620, Jones captained the Mayflower during its voyage from England to the New World, carrying 65 passengers. On 5 May 1621, after dropping off the Pilgrims in the New World, Jones returned to England, and he died in 1622 after returning from a voyage to France.
