
Christopher Ellery (1 November 1768 – 2 December 1840) was a US Senator from Rhode Island from 6 May 1801 to 3 March 1805, succeeding Ray Greene and preceding James Fenner. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party.
Biography[]
Christopher Ellery was born in Newport, Rhode Island in 1768, and he worked as a lawyer and as clerk of the superior court of Newport County from 1794 to 1798. He was appointed to finish Ray Greene's US Senate term, serving from 1801 to 1805 as a Democratic-Republican. In 1804, he was defeated for re-election by James Fenner, and he collected customs at Newport from 1820 to 1834. He died in Middletown in 1840.
