Christopher Del Sesto

Christopher Del Sesto (10 March 1907-23 December 1973) was the Republican Governor of Rhode Island from 6 January 1959 to 3 January 1961, succeeding Dennis J. Roberts and preceding John A. Notte Jr..

Biography[]

Christopher Del Sesto was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1907, and he worked as a certified public accountant and attorney before serving as a chief clerk in the office of the general treasurer from 1933 to 1935, as a budget officer, director of the Rhode Island Finance Department from 1940 to 1942, Director of the state Office of Price Administration from 1942 to 1945, and Governor from 1959 to 1961. He oversaw highway construction, the liberalization of education funding in cities and towns, and the creation of a state scholarship program. He died in 1973.
