Christian the Younger of Brunswick (20 September 1599-16 June 1626) was a German Protestant general during the Thirty Years' War.
Biography[]
Christian the Younger of Brunswick was born in Halberstadt, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany in 1599, the son of Henry Julius of Brunswick-Luneburg; he was the maternal nephew of King Christian IV of Denmark. He joined Maurice of Orange's army in 1620 and fought against the Spanish in the Dutch Revolt, and he later raised an army of his own and fought for Frederick V of Palatinate at the 1622 Battle of Hochst, the 1622 Battle of Fleurus, and the 1623 Battle of Stadtlohn. He died of illness while being pursued by Count Tilly through Hesse in 1626.
