The Christian Democrats (KD) is a Christian democratic political party in Sweden that was founded in 1964. The party was founded in response to the 1963 decision by the Swedish government to remove religious instruction from the elementary school syllbus, and the party's four main goals were to improve the care of the elderly, grant freedom of choice for families with children in selecting their childcare, decrease regulations on companies, and lower taxes to promote growth and combat unemployment. In 2017, KD held 16/349 Riksdag seats, 1/20 European Parliament seats, 81/1,597 county council seats, and 515/12,780 municipal council seats.
