Chris Van Hollen (10 January 1959-) was a member of the US Senate from Maryland (D) from 3 January 2017, succeeding Barbara Mikulski; he formerly served as a member of the US House of Representatives from Maryland's 8th district from 3 January 2003 to 3 January 2017, succeeding Connie Morella and preceding Jamie Raskin.
Biography[]
Chris Van Hollen was born in Karachi, Pakistan on 10 Janaury 1959, the son of a Foreign Service officer and a CIA agent. He attended school in southern India, and he graduated from Swarthmore College, Harvard University, and Georgetown University. He was admitted to the bar in 1990, and he was elected to the Maryland General Assembly in 1991. In 2003, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, and then to the US Senate in 2017. Van Hollen supported abortion rights, gay rights, gun control, and increased environmental protections.
