Chris Kyle (8 April 1974-2 February 2013) was an American sailor and US Navy SEAL sniper who served in the Iraq War, and is known for being the most lethal American sniper in history. The 2014 film American Sniper was made about him.

Biography[]

Chris Kyle was born in Odessa, Texas on 8 April 1974. He joined the US Navy SEALs in 1999. When 9/11 occurred, Chris Kyle saw it on CNN at his girlfriend's house, speeding to his base as soon as he heard the news. In 2003, he was deployed to Iraq for the invasion of Iraq in 2003. Upon arrival, he showed a relatively unsympathetic view to the Iraqi people. He had several followers, among his followers were Ryan "Biggles" Job, Kevin "Dauber" Lacz, and Kyle "Goat" Winston. During his time in the Iraq War, he served with distinction and earned several commendations from his superiors.

Despite his awards, Kyle was not without controversy. He had been caught lying about several incidents, including allegedly punching former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura and gunning down looters in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina; both of which he was sued for. Kyle has also proven himself to be an unreliable narrator in his book, lying about various killings that were not counted in his official kill count. On 2 February 2013, he was shot and killed by Eddie Ray Routh along with his friend Chad Littlefield.
