Chiswick is a neighborhood of the London Borough of Hounslow in Greater London, England. It was known to the Anglo-Saxons as Ceswican, meaning "Cheese Farm", and it grew up as a village in the late 12th century. Chiswick grew almost tenfold during the 19th century due to the Industrial Revolution and the urbanization of Greater London, and, during World War II, Chiswick was struck by German bombs during The Blitz and was the site of the first V-2 attack (on Staveley Road at 6:43 PM, 8 September 1944), which killed 3 people and injured 22 others. By the 21st century, Chiswick had become an affluent suburb of the City of London. In 2011, Chiswick had a population of 34,337 people.
