Chinatown, San Francisco is a district of San Francisco, California and the largest Chinese community outside Asia. The neighborhood was the first Chinatown in the United States, formed in 1848 shortly after the USA took over California from Mexico, and it grew due to the influx of Chinese immigrants to America to work on the railroads. Later, it would become a home for other Asian immigrants, and 1992 saw clashes between the Chinese Mountain Cloud Boys gang and the Vietnamese Da Nang Boys in the neighborhood. In 2000, the neighborhood had a population of 100,574 people, and it became an even more-popular tourist destination than the Golden Gate Bridge.
