Chinatown is a Chinese ethnic enclave in Brooklyn, New York City. The first "chinatown" in Brooklyn was emerged in Sunset Park during the 1980s, three decades after the abandonment of the "Little Norway" community of Norwegian immigrants. The first Chinese grocery store in Brooklyn opened in 1983, and a Cantonese-style seafood restaurant opened on 8th Avenue in 1985. In 1988, the first Chinese community organization opened on 8th Avenue. Immigrants from Guangdong and Chinese-Americans escaping the higher rents of Manhattan's Chinatown restored occupancy to Eighth Avenue's 90% abandoned storefronts after 1988, but an influx of Fuzhounese immigrants arrived during the 2000s and supplanted the Cantonese community. In addition to the 8th Avenue Chinatown, other Brooklyn Chinatowns emerged in Bensonhurst, Sheepshead Bay, Dyker Heights, Bath Beach, Gravesend, and Homecrest.
