Childeric I (440-482) was King of the Franks from 457 to 482, succeeding Merovech and preceding Clovis I of Francia.
Biography[]
Childeric was born in 440, the son of King Merovech of the Salian Franks. Childeric was exiled for eight years by the Franks because of their unhappiness with his private life, but they later recalled him, and he returned as king. In 463, Childeric allied with Western Roman Empire general Aegidius to defeat the Visigoths, who attempted to advance along the Loire River. In 476-481, he flirted with the idea of allying with Odoacer against the Alemanni, but he died a year ater, and his son Clovis I of Francia succeeded him.
