The Chieftain tank was the main battle tank of the British Army from 1966 to 1983, replacing the Centurion tank before itself being replaced by the Challenger 1. The tank had higher speed than the Centurion, and the Challenger 1 shared many of the Chieftain's features, although it was bigger.
