Chief Yesugei of Al Jazira (1220-) was a noble of the Ilkhanate.
Biography[]
Yesugei was born in 1220 to the Zaranjids, a dynasty of Tengri Mongols. On 17 November 1263, at the demands of Hulegu Khan, Yesugei converted to Orthodox Christianity. Yesugei was invited to the 1263 Great Feast of Qom on 8 December by Hulegu, and Hulegu secretly harbored a dislike for Yesugei when he indirectly insulted his hospitality by refusing more wine. On 7 December 1264, during the nine days' feast after the 1264 Ilkhanate Nerge, Yesugei engaged in carnal pleasures with one of the serving girls in a corner of a room in the full view of everyone else, with loud screams of passions interrupting Hulegu Khan's conversations with some guests. Both were completely naked, and only when they noticed the stunned silence in the room did they remember where they were. His questionable behavior at the feast decreased Hulegu's opinion of him.
