Chief Bugidai of al-Mafraq

Chief Bugidai of al-Mafraq (1235-) was the chief of al-Mafraq under the Ilkhanate.

Biography[]

Bugidai was born in 1235 to the House of Bugidai, a dynasty of Orthodox Christian Mongols. He was invited to the court of Khagan Hulegu Khan in 1261, and Hulegu granted him the landed title of the Chiefdom of al-Mafraq in present-day Mafraq Governorate, Jordan. On 8 December 1263 Bugidai was invited to the 1263 Great Feast of Qom, and he became great friends with Hulegu Khan after having a conversation into the night of 12 January 1264 while all of the other guests were going to sleep, increasing their opinions of each other to the maximum.
