Chiba Atsuyori (died 1176) was the daimyo of the Chiba clan during the late 12th century. Atsuyori was an ambitious ruler who was dependable, and was originally trade partners with the Kamakura Minamoto clan. Atsuyori was later invaded by the Minamoto and killed.
Biography[]
Atsuyori was from Ichihara in Kazusa Province, which was the capital of his clan, the Chiba. His family was dependable and ambitious, and had ruled Kazusa in peace for many years. Atsuyori became daimyo of the Chiba in 1175, and ruled in a time of strife, the Genpei War. He made a trade agreement with the Kamakura Minamoto in 1176 when he encountered them, but he later faced an invasion from the north. Atsuyori was forced to retreat back to the city of Ichihara in Kazusa Province, and he was killed when the Minamoto stormed the castle.
