The Chiba clan was a samurai clan from Heian Empire-era Japan that was from Ichihara, Kazusa Province.
History[]
The Chiba were a branch of the Taira clan, governing in Kazusa Province. They were ambitious in temperament and dependable in integrity, and they later moved to Shimosa Province when under the rule of the Kamakura Shogunate. The Chiba were made the leaders of the province, with each new daimyo also holding the title of shugo (governor).
They would hold this title until Hideyoshi Hashiba conquered these lands three hundred years later, and they were absorbed into the Toyotomi Shogunate. Many of their descendants live in present-day Chiba Prefecture.
