The Chi-Ha 47, also known as the Type 97 Chi-Ha, was a medium tank built by the Imperial Japanese Army from 1938 to 1943, seeing action during the Second Sino-Japanese War, the Nomonhan Incident, and World War II. The tank was the most widely-produced medium tank in Japan during World War II, with 1,162 tanks being built. The Chi-Ha was built with the purpose of infantry support and not for armored warfare, and it had the quality of a 1930s tank, making it cannon fodder for American tanks during World War II.
