Chester Moreau

Chester Moreau (1926-1968) was a New Orleans businessman and high-ranking leader of the Southern Union.

Biography[]

Chester Moreau was born in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1926 to a wealthy Louisiana Creole family, and he became the owner of the Bellaire's Supermarket in Frisco Fields in addition to become a high-ranking leader in the Southern Union. He used his supermarket as a front for selling African-Americans to other wealthy white citizens, with Mason Carter running the human trafficking racket for Moreau. In 1968, Treasury Agent Jackie Grimaldi investigated Moreau's immense collection of money, and she collaborated with Lincoln Clay to destroy the Southern Union's propaganda stashes, hideouts, and warehouses and to kill Southern Union enforcers. Clay would also kill Carter and free several slaves from internment by Southern Union enforcers, and Moreau was forced to return to Frisco Fields from the French Quarter, and Clay assaulted his supermarket and confronted Moreau. Moreau offered to give Clay anything that he wanted if he did not hurt him, but Clay claimed that he only wanted Moreau to die, and he fatally stabbed Moreau.
