Chester Hardy Aldrich (10 November 1863-10 March 1924) was the Republican Governor of Nebraska from 5 January 1911 to 9 January 1913, succeeding Ashton C. Shallenberger and preceding John H. Morehead.
Biography[]
Chester Hardy Aldrich was born in Pierpont, Ohio in 1863, and he settled in Ulysses, Nebraska, where he was a high school principal and livestock rancher before becoming a lawyer in David City in 1890. He served as Mayor of David City before being elected to the State Senate in 1906, attacking the power of Nebraska's railroad trusts and later addressing his alma mater, Ohio State University, where he spoke on "Progressive Citizenship". In 1910, with support from Democrat William Jennings Bryan, he was elected Governor, supporting a sanitary health bill and a road program. He also served on the state Supreme Court from 1918 until his death in 1924.
