Cheimonas of the Sacred Watch (493 BC - 431 BC) was a Greek mercenary in the service of Megaris during the Peloponnesian War. He was killed during the Siege of Megaris.
Biography[]
Cheimonas was a veteran warrior, and he joined the mercenary band called "the Sacred Watch". He was the oldest member of the group, and he was always on the front lines of battle, as well as always being the last to leave. His band was once a noble group of defenders, but the call for drachmae led to his band seeking easy bounties across the world. In 431 BC, Hippias the Vivacious of Megaris hired Cheimonas to hunt down and kill the Spartan mercenary Kassandra during the Siege of Megaris, and Cheimonas was sent to the port of Nisaia during Kassandra's infiltration of the Athenian base there. Kassandra snuck up behind Cheimonas and assassinated him stealthily, her third mercenary kill.
