Charlotte of Prussia (13 July 1798-1 November 1860) was the Tsarina of the Russian Empire from 1 December 1825 to 2 March 1855 with Tsar Nicholas I of Russia.

Biography[]

Charlotte of Prussia was born on 13 July 1798 in Charlottenburg Palace, Berlin, Prussia, the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm III of Prussia and Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. In 1814, she was arranged to marry Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich of the Russian Empire, marrying him in 1817. Charlotte converted to Orthodox Christianity and took on the Russian name of "Alexandra Feodorovna", and she was an admiring supporter of her husband's views during his reign as Czar from 1825 to 1855. Alexandra became sickly and invalid, and she still had the love of her husband, even as he took mistresses. She died in 1860, five years after her husband.
