Charlie Smith was born in Hamilton, Bermuda, United Kingdom, and he became Governor of Bermuda in 1949. Smith was an anti-communist during his tenure, and in 1951 India's Indian Intelligence Bureau plotted to assassinate him to trigger a communist coup. However, the plot failed.
