Charlie Kirk

Charlie Kirk (1994-) was an American conservative media personality and the founder of Turning Point USA.

Biography[]

Charlie Kirk was born in the Chicago suburb of Prospect Heights, Illinois in 1994, and he became an evangelical Christian and Republican political activist in high school, campaigning for Mark Kirk's US Senate campaign. In 2012, after writing an essay for Breitbart News alleging liberal bias in high school textbooks, he became deeply involved with conservative activism, founding Turning Point USA with financial support from Foster Friess. He later spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention and led the efforts to recruit millennials into supporting Donald Trump, although he was not an initial supporter of the candidate. In 2018, while he praised Kanye West for getting involved in politics and advocating for Trump, he told Taylor Swift to stay away from politics after she endorsed a Democrat. He also spread misinformation that the Yellow vests movement in France chanted "We want Trump" and that Cuba had 15 years lower life expectancy than the United States (when it was, in fact, higher). In July 2019, he became chairman of Students for Trump and launched a campaign to recruit 1 million students for Trump's re-election campaign; he also moved to Florida, claiming that Illinois did not love him.
