Charlie Baker (born 13 November 1956) was Governor of Massachusetts (R) from 8 January 2015 to 5 January 2023, succeeding Deval Patrick and preceding Maura Healey.
Biography[]
Charlie Baker was born in Elmira, New York in 1956, and he was raised in Needham. He served as State Undersecretary of Health from 1991 to 1992, as State Secretary of Health and Human Services from 1992 to 1994, and as Secretary of Administration and Finance from 1994 to 1998 under Governors Bill Weld and Paul Cellucci. In 2009, as a fiscal conservative and social liberal, he was the Republican nominee for Governor of Massachusetts, and he lost to the Democratic incumbent Deval Patrick. However, he won by a narrow margin in 2014, and he had the highest approval rating of any governor at 70%; he was re-elected in 2018.
