Charles Stewart TX

Charles Stewart (30 May 1836-21 September 1895) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-TX 1) from 4 March 1883 to 3 March 1893, succeeding John Henninger Reagan and preceding Joseph C. Hutcheson. Born in Memphis, Tennessee, he moved to Galveston, Texas in 1845 and practiced law in Marlin before serving as a prosecuting attorney, as a delegate to the 1861 secession convention, in the 10th Texas Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War, as city attorney of Houston from 1874 to 1876, as a member of the Texas Senate from 1878 to 1882, and in the US House of Representatives from 1883 to 1893.
