Charles Sitgreaves

Charles Sitgreaves (22 April 1803-17 March 1878) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 3) from 4 March 1865 to 3 March 1869, succeeding William G. Steele and preceding John T. Bird.

Biography[]

Charles Sitgreaves was born in Easton, Pennsylvania in 1803, and he became a lawyer in Phillipsburg, New Jersey in 1824. He served in the General Assembly from 1831 to 1833, on the Legislative Council from 1834 to 1835, in the State Senate from 1851 to 1854, as a bank director from 1856 until his death in 1878, as Mayor from 1861 to 1862, and in the US House of Representatives from 1865 to 1869. He died in 1878.
