Charles Marie Lagrange (1680-1754) was a Marshal of France. Lagrange first became popular when he lead the Royal Army against the 1709 Republic and eventually defeated them.

Early life[]

Charles Lagrange was born into an aristocratic family in Marseille. At the age of 18, Lagrange started studying at the Royal Military Academy of Paris where he did not particularly stand out.

Leading role in the restoration of the Monarchy[]

When the monarchy fell in 1709, Lagrange joined the Royal forces that fought Republican forces everywhere in France. He quickly rose up the ranks and became the highest general of the royal army. In late 1713, he lead the decisive attack against the Republican army in Paris which would induce the fall of the 1709 Republic. After the restoration of the monarchy, Charles Lagrange was proclaimed a Marshal of France.
