Charles Grigg

Charles Grigg was an English stage performer during the Victorian era. He and Charles Carson performed as the "Cheerful Charies" duo at the Victoria Theatre in Yorkshire during the 1880s, but the two parted ways due to Grigg's repeated embezzlement of their earningts. Grigg continued to perform until the early 1910s, when he was charged with a petty crime. In September 1912, he sought out Carson at Downton Abbey, threatening to expose his past as a performer unless he gave him a place to hide and money. Carson hid Grigg in an empty cottage and stole from the estate's kitchens to feed him, but he refused to give him any money. Grigg later confronted Robert Crawley, 7th Earl of Grantham and told him of Carson's past, but the Earl gave him twenty pounds and warned him never to come back to the estate, threatening to convict him of theft and blackmail if he returned.
