Charles Christopher Sheats (10 April 1839-27 May 1904) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-AL) from 4 March 1873 to 3 March 1875, preceding William H. Forney.

Biography[]

Charles Christopher Sheats was born in Walker County, Alabama on 10 April 1839, and, at the age of 21, he was elected to the secession convention, where he refused to sign the ordinance. He went on to serve in the State House in 1861, and he was expelled in 1862 for his loyalty to the Union during the American Civil War. He became a lawyer in Decatur in 1876 and served as the United States Consul in Elsinore, Denmark from 1869 to 1872, when he was elected to the US House of Representatives. He served one term, and he died in Decatur in 1904.
