The Independent Group, later known as Change UK, was a centrist political party in the United Kingdom which was founded by seven Labour Party defectors on 18 February 2019. Its founders split with Labour due to disagreements with their party's handling of Brexit and due to "institutional anti-Semitism" in the party. With the defections, they held 7/650 House of Commons seats. On 20 February, Conservative Party MPs Anna Soubry, Sarah Wollaston, and Heidi Allen joined the party due to their disagreements with their own party's handling of Brexit, bringing the party up to eleven MPs. On 15 April 2019, the parliamentary grouping officially registered as a political party. On 4 June 2019, after Change UK failed to gain representation in the European Parliament, six of its ten MPs defected to the Lib Dems (including Allen and Chuka Umunna), leaving Soubry as its leader. On 10 July 2019, the last remaining members formed The Independents.
