Chakib Akrouh

Chakib Akrouh (27 August 1990 – 18 November 2015) was an Islamic State member who blew himself up during the Saint-Denis raid on 18 November 2015 as police closed in on him.

Biography[]

Chakib Akrouh was born on August 27, 1990 in Brussels, Belgium to a family of Sunni Muslim Moroccans. In 2013,he travelled to Syria to fight in the Syrian Civil War. Akrouh became a sympathizer of the Islamic State and was one of the men who took part in the November 2015 Paris attacks alongside Abdelhamid Abaaoud, shooting people at bars and restaurants across the French capital. Abaaoud and Akrouh escaped to their Saint-Denis apartment after the attacks, but police officers were dispatche to raid it; Akrouh detonated his suicide vest when the police attacked the apartment, killing himself and Hasna Aitboulahcen, while Abaaoud was gunned down. He posthumously appeared in an Islamic State propaganda video that showed him warning France about the Islamic State, which would launch attacks against the French government due to their bombing of Syria.
