Boseman with Kamala Harris, 2020
Chadwick Boseman (29 November 1976-28 August 2020) was an American actor and producer. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, he moved to Brooklyn, New York City to pursue an acting career (later relocating to Los Angeles in 2008), and he became famous for his portrayals of African-American heroes and icons such as Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and James Brown, in addition to the Marvel superhero Black Panther, in one of the first major black superhero movies. Boseman's heroic film roles made him a beloved actor, as did his off-screen philanthropic efforts. During the 2020 George Floyd protests, he was an active supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement on social media and expressed his happiness that Kamala Harris was chosen as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee in 2020. He passed away from cancer on 28 August 2020, having privately battled the illness for four years.
