Cenwalch the Proud

Cenwalch the Proud (843-May 878) was a West Saxon reeve who answered King Alfred the Great's call for troops at Egbert's Stone before the Battle of Edington in 878. He was nicknamed "the Proud" because he wore his finest clothing into battle, and he was slain in battle by the Danes and his body looted of valubales.
