Central Africa Wilayah

The Central Africa Wilayah (ISCAP) was an administrative division of the Islamic State based in both the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mozambique. In October 2017, the "City of Monotheism and Monotheists" (MTM) militant group in DR Congo (previously affiliated with the Allied Democratic Forces) claimed that it was the Dar al-Islam of the Islamic State in Central Africa, and it called upon fellow Salafists to travel to Central Africa to join the jihad. By mid-2018, IS militants had infiltrated northern Mozambique. In April 2019, the Central Africa Wilayah claimed responsibility for its first attacks, attacking army bases at Kamango and Bovata in the eastern DR Congo. In June 2019, it also attacked the Mozambican army at Mitopy, and it joined the Insurgency in Cabo Delgado, capturing the major port of Mocimboa do Praia on 11 August 2020 and making it their outpost in the region.
