
Celankobe (1762-) was an African slave who ran away from Spanish custody in 1790 and became a follower of Cheyenne chief Napeshneeduta.
Biography[]
Celankobe means "Evening Star" in Zulu, and was captured in a slave raid by Spanish slavers while he was ten. He was sent to Mexico to work in the gold mines, but in 1790 ran away from his plantation and managed to avoid the Spanish colonists. After the Battle of Arkansas Plantations in Summer 1790, he ran to follow the Cheyenne chief Napeshneeduta, who accepted him as a companion.
