Cedric (824-) was an Anglo-Saxon courtier in the service of King Alfred the Great of Wessex during the late 9th century AD. In 877, he was sent to retrieve a jewel made for King Alfred by Aethelfrid the Jeweler, and Eivor Wolf-Kissed delivered it to him after threatening Aethelfrid into handing it over. Cedric welcomed the stranger's help and described the beauty of the jewel, only to realize that Eivor -a Viking warrior may have intended to keep it. Eivor decided to hand it over to Cedric, but he warned him that the jewel, Winchester, and all of Wessex would soon be his, causing a shocked Cedric to tell Eivor that they should both forget that they had even talked.
