Cayetano Carpio

Cayetano Carpio (6 August 1918 – 12 April 1983) was the founder of the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) of El Salvador.

Biography[]

Salvador Cayetano Carpio was born on 6 August 1918, the son of a cobbler; he worked as a laborer before joining the Communist Party of El Salvador. In the 1960s, he became its Secretary-General, but in 1980 he left the group to form the Farabundo Marti National Liberation Front (FMLN) communist rebel group that fought against the government of El Salvador in the Salvadoran Civil War. After Ana Maria was killed by her own men, Carpio was blamed for the murder, leading to him killing himself on 12 April 1983.
