Catherine Bellier (1614-7 June 1689), also known as the Madame de Beauvais, was the first mistress of King Louis XIV of France.
Biography[]
Catherine Bellier became the lady-in-waiting to Queen Anne of Austria, and she was intelligent, plotting, and a trusted companion of Queen Anne. Despite being described as ugly, she had several love affairs, including one with the Archbishop of Sens. The queen dowager entrusted Bellier with providing the fourteen-year-old King Louis XIV of France with sexual education by seducing him and depriving him of his virginity in 1652. Their relationship lasted for two years before she was granted an estate and a pension. She constructed the Hotel de Beauvais in Le Marais, Paris, and she died in 1689.
