Carole Richardson (1957-2013) was a young Englishwoman who, as one of the "Guildford Four", was wrongly accused of taking part in the Guildford pub bombings and imprisoned and tortured from 1975 to 1989.

Biography[]

Carole Richardson was born in London, England in 1957, and she was a follower of the counterculture movement during the 1960s and 1970s, living in a squat with 25-year-old Irish hippie Paddy Armstrong by 1975. The 17-year-old Richardson was arrested by the British police after being wrongly accused of taking part in the Guildford pub bombings, and Richardson, Armstrong, and two other members of the "Guildford Four" were tortured and imprisoned until 1989, when their life sentences were dropped by the Court of Appeal after it found out that their "confessions" were coerced. Richardson died of cancer in 2013 at the age of 55.
