Carmela Corleone (1897-1959) was the wife of Don Vito Corleone and the mother of Sonny, Fredo, Michael, Tom Hagen, and Connie.
Biography[]
Carmela Corleone was born in Corleone, Sicily in 1897, and she came to the United States at a young age. She settled in New York City, New York, and she married Vito Corleone at the age of sixteen. Her first child, Santino, was born in 1916, and she had numerous miscarriages before giving birth to the sickly Frederico Corleone in 1918. She bore Vito two more children, Michael and Connie, and Vito and Carmela adopted Sonny's friend Tom Hagen as their son. The two maintained a loving marriage for 40 years, and Carmela managed to cope with her husband's criminal line of work as the head of the powerful Corleone crime family. Vito never had a mistress and never struck his wife, and Carmela was a loving matriarch of the family even after her husband's death in 1955. She died in Lake Tahoe, Nevada in 1959.
