Carlos Manuel Piedra

Carlos Manuel Piedra (1895-1988) was President of Cuba on 1 January 1959, succeeding Anselmo Alliegro y Mila and preceding Manuel Urrutia Lleo.

Biography[]

Carlos Manuel Piedra was born in Cuba in 1895, and he became a supreme court justice. By 1959, he was the oldest justice, and he was appointed as a provisional president by a military junta led by Eulogio Cantillo following Fulgencio Batista's resignation on 1 January 1959 during the Cuban Revolution. He served a day in office, and Fidel Castro had Manuel Urrutia Lleo appointed to succeed Piedra that same day.
