Carlos Alberto Arroyo del Rio

Carlos Alberto Arroyo del Rio (27 November 1893-31 October 1969) was President of Ecuador from 18 November to 10 December 1939 (succeeding Aurelio Mosquera and preceding Andres Cordova) and from 1 September 1940 to 28 May 1944 (succeeding Julio Enrique Moreno and preceding Jose Maria Velasco Ibarra).

Biography[]

Carlos Alberto Arroyo del Rio was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1893, and he practiced law before entering politics with the Ecuadorian Radical Liberal Party. He twice served as President of the Senate before becoming acting President in 1939 and serving as President from 1940 to 1944. He was seen as a representative of the agribusiness and banking plutocrats, and he presided over Ecuador's loss in the Ecuadorian-Peruvian War before being overthrown in the 28 May Revolution in 1944. He died in 1969.
