Carloman of France (866-12 December 884) was King of West Francia from 879 to 884, succeeding Louis the Stammerer and preceding Charles the Fat.
Biography[]
Carloman was born in 866, the youngest son of Louis the Stammerer and Ansgarde of Burgundy. He was jointly crowned with his brother Louis III of France in 879, and Carloman received Burgundy and Aquitaine while his brother received the rest of their father's realm in France. Boso of Provence renounced his loyalty to Carloman, and in 880 he took Macon and then Vienne in 882, the same year that he became sole king due to his brother's death. He died on 12 December 884 on a hunting trip, and Charles the Fat succeeded him.
