Carlo Tramonti

Carlo "the Whale" Tramonti (1894-1964) was the Don of the Tramonti crime family of New Orleans.

Biography[]

Carlo Tramonti was born in Sicily in 1894, the eldest of six brothers. He emigrated from Sicily as a young boy and settled in Florida, where he made his fortune from gambling. Tramonti exterminated the people who were backed by police and owned gambling operations from there, and he opened ties with Cuban president Fulgencio Batista, who supplied the Mafia with gambling and whorehouses. By the 1940s, Tramonti owned a very valuable Miami beach hotel, and he came to own almost every business in New Orleans and rural Louisiana. He was nicknamed "the Whale" for swallowing nearly every business in his path, and he was also known for his womanizing.

In 1963, he was arrested by immigration agents and deported to Colombia, the country listed on his false passport. He sought to assassinate President John F. Kennedy in revenge, but The Commission refused to grant him permission to do so. After Kennedy was assassinated, Tramonti was called before a US Senate committee to testify, but he was later found shot twice in the head in his car with a meat cleaver pulled up in his gut. The Corleone crime family was responsible for his murder.
