Carl Schurz Park

Carl Schurz Park is a 14.9-acre public park in Yorkville, Manhattan, New York City. It was once home to a villa, but the city turned it into a picnic ground in 1901 and a park in 1910 (named for the late Secretary of the Interior Carl Schurz, who was a member of the German immigrant community, which had a huge presence in Yorkville at the time), before being reconstructed in 1935 by Robert Moses. It was restored from a neglected state in the early 1970s.
