Rehnskiold

Carl Gustaf Rehnskiold (6 August 1651 – 29 January 1722) was a general of Sweden.

Biography[]

Despite being choleric and irritable, Rehnskiold was a brave soldier who was a superior general with a taste for battle. He was called the "Parmenion of the Northern Alexander" in relation to Karl XII of Sweden, as he was his close second-in-command, and served in the successful 1701-03 campaign against Poland-Lithuania. Rehnskiold was captured by the Russians in the 1708 Battle of Poltava and was held prisoner for ten years, when he was released from captivity as a prisoner-of-war.
