Carl Albert Anderson (27 February 1951-) was the Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus from 2000, succeeding Virgil C. Dechant.

Biography[]

Carl Albert Anderson was born in Connecticut in 1951, and he became a lawyer in Washington DC. During Ronald Reagan's presidency, Anderson served as Special Assistant to the President and as acting director of the White House Office of Public Liaison, and he claimed that people had to make moral judgments on AIDS to stop its spread. He also served as a legislative assistant to US Senator Jesse Helms, and he was a family law professor at the John Paul II Pontifical Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences at the Pontifical Lateran University from 1983 to 1998. In 2000, he became Supreme Knight of the Knights of Columbus, and, under his leadership, the Knights of Columbus became highly politicized and spent millions of dollars to support the Religious Right Republicans and their efforts to oppose abortion and gay rights.
