The Capture of Santiago de Compostella (late July 1811) was a battle of the Peninsular War that occurred when an Allied army of 523 troops, led by Viscount Wellington, captured the city of Santiago de Compostella in northwestern Spain from a garrison of 1,023 French troops under Diderot Hoche with 134 losses. The British and Portuguese forces advanced north from Portugal and laid siege to the city, which they had to take by force due to having fewer troops. The British defeated the French, conquering the region.
