The Capture of Porto (late May 1811) was a battle of the Peninsular War that occurred in late May 1811 when an Allied army of 955 troops under Viscount Wellington captured the city of Porto, Norte, Portugal from its garrison of 600 French troops under Nicolas Lorrain. Following the Battle of Viseu, the Allied army of Wellington marched north and besieged the undefended city of Porto, and Colonel Lorrain agreed to surrender to avoid unnecessary bloodshed. The French surrendered with the honors of war, and the British occupied the city.
