The Capture of Oviedo (early November 1811) was a battle of the Peninsular War that occurred when the 665-strong Allied army under Viscount Wellington captured the city of Oviedo in Asturias from Edgard le Notre's 885-strong French army. The Allied forces assaulted the city and conquered it with 71 losses, freeing Asturias from French rule. The Allied forces decided to continue the occupation of Oviedo rather than hand it over to Spain, as the British desperately needed a supply port and a source of tax income.
